2: 46229's awe-inspiring performances over the S&C are regarded by many as the zenith of 1980s main line steam and DUCHESS OF HAMILTON ON THE S & C presents one of her finest southbound runs as heard from the front coach on 19th March 1983. After some impressive sound between Carlisle and Appleby the runpasts are a prelude to the serious business of the climb to Ais Gill (different from Vol 1). Garsdale to Rise Hill Tunnel is followed by signal-stops at Settle Junction and finally Long Preston to the summit after Hellifield. Three lineside excerpts complement the journey to give 56 memorable minutes of  the definitive Duchess. The Audio Clip is after Long Marton. To listen click HERE

4: 48773 ON THE MAIN LINE offers you almost an hoursworth behind 48773 on two trips. On the 12-coach 'Lancastrian' of 1-2-92 are Chester departure and the six-mile climb from Bolton to Sough. This track is, as they used to say on the wireless, 'not recommended for those of a nervous disposition' as it includes the 2-8-0's nail-biting recovery from the 10mph level-crossing slack half-way up the 1 in 74. 48773 made steam history on 2-1-99 at the head of 'The Midlander' which included the first solo, unassisted climb of the Lickey Incline in preservation. Our recordings on this tour were made from the front vestibule and there's a lineside Lickey excerpt on Volume 15. The Audio Clip is near Entwistle, on the climb to Sough. To listen click HERE

5: It was not until 5-10-97 that the first public steam run from Inverness to Kyle of Lochalsh and back took place, and there have been very few repeats. We were in the front coach throughout to capture 75014 conquering this deceptively hard road and 75014 ON THE KYLE LINE bears aural witness to the tough little 4-6-0's response to the enthusiasm and competence of the crew. All the big climbs are here (in both directions where applicable): Ravens Rock, Corriemuillie and Luib are accompanied by some forceful departures to give 58 minutes of no-nonsense performance of which Mr Riddles would have been proud. The Audio Clip is on the return climb to Ravens Rock To listen click HERE.

RD3: THE BELFAST BOAT EXPRESS is a 53 minute tribute to BR's last steam-hauled named train: the 20.55 Manchester-Heysham and next day's 06.15 return service. In journey order, the 36 digitally re-mastered tracks include on-train, footplate, signalbox and lineside recordings with block bells, levers and station announcers adding to the nostalgia. Naturally, the majority of the locos are Stanier Fives but 73134 & 73160 are also heard. The Audio Clip is 45025 leaving Bolton. To listen click HERE
